DH Fetes Unsung Corporate Heroes

They pep up the spirits when the moods are rock bottom, they convert weaknesses into strengths, they recognise talents and reward them. But the irony is that their own efforts often go unnoticed. But Deccan Herald on Saturday honoured these unsung heroes of the corporate world with the prestigious "DH Avenues HR Excellence Awards" in Bangalore.

 

At a glittering function, the Excellence Awards were given away to some of the outstanding professionals in Human Resource (HR), working for different companies. The 'Lifetime Achievement' Award was presented to Harish Mehta, the man Indian software industry owes a lot to. He was the Chief Founder of Nasscom and currently the Chairman and Managing Director of Onward Technologies Limited.

In his acceptance speech, Mr Mehta said he was 'honoured to receive the award'. "The Indian software industry has given one million jobs but I want to see ten million jobs being created," he added.

The "CEO of the Year Award' was conferred on the man who has set new standards in the booming telecom industry, Sunil Mittal, Chairman and Group MD of Bharti Enterprises Limited. However, the Award was received by Jagadish Kini, CEO, South Central Region, Bharti Mobile Limited as Mr Mittal could not make it to the award ceremony.

The "Outstanding Professional of the Year" went to the Chairman and Managing Director of Canara Bank, R V Shastri.

The "Outstanding HR Professional Award" too was bagged by a bank professional, Chandrashekar Pingali, Senior Vice President and Head, HR (India and Nepal), Standard Chartered Bank.

The other award winners are as follows: Best teacher in HR practices, Prof Chetan Wakalkar, Director, Indira Group of Institutions, Pune; Young HR Professional of the Year, Ms Priyanca Chharbra, HR Manager, Eli Lilly Company (I) Limited, New Delhi; HR Professional of the Year, Pratik Kumar, Corporate VP - HR, Wipro Corporation, Bangalore.

The award for organisations which create fun and joy at work went to PSI Data Systems, Bangalore and Lowe Lintas advertising agency, Bangalore.

The 'Innovative HR Practices' awards were presented to ten companies: WNS Global Services Limited, Mumbai; Aztec Software and Technology Services Limited, Bangalore; MICO, Bangalore; Transworks IT Services (India) Limited, Bangalore; Le Royal Meridien, Chennai; Royal Sundaram Alliance Insurance Company Limited, Chennai; Mind Tree Consulting Private Limited, Bangalore; Bharti Televentures Limited; Siemens Information Systems Limited and Dr Reddy's Laboratories.

The awards were presented by Bob Hoekstra, CEO of Philips Software Centre Private Limited; K N Shanth Kumar, Editor, Deccan Herald and Prajavani and K N Tilak Kumar, joint managing director, Deccan Herald and Prajavani. Earlier, a day-long seminar was conducted on Human Resource organised by 'DH Avenues', the popular supplement of Deccan Herald, in association with Centre for Change Management.
